The Green Party
The Illinois Green Party gained the same officially recognized legal status as the Democrats and Republicans in 2006 when gubernatorial candidate Rich Whitney received over 10% of the vote, thus surpassing the 5% threshold needed to gain official recognition. (Incidentally, the Whitney campaign spent a mere $60,000 while Blagojevich spent $20 million and Judy Barr Topinka spent $13 million.)
