My Bio
George Ochsenfeld has been fighting for quality of life in the 79th District for 20 years.
George Ochsenfeld has been president of STAND (Shut This Airport Nightmare Down) since 1997. He served as president of RURAL (Residents United to Retain Agricultural Land) from 1992 to 1997. Both were non-paid positions with non-profit, grassroots organizations.
A 1967 graduate of Brother Rice High School, George received degrees from Northern Illinois University and Governors State University. He taught for 20 years at Governors State University in the Substance Abuse Program, and currently has a private practice for addictions counseling.
George worked as a laborer in a match factory, a toy factory, a foundry, and as a civil service kitchen laborer. He also worked for the Chicago & North Western Railroad as a coach cleaner, a freight car welder and a brakeman. He learned that, in general, the less a job pays, the harder you work and that union jobs are better than non-union jobs.
George lives with his wife Maureen on their 10 acre tree farm in unincorporated Monee, where they keep bees and have been planting trees for 24 years.
