Let's repair our current infrastructure and create jobs within the emerging green economy.That means manufacturing green products, producing clean energy and funding energy efficiency like winterizing of homes and businesses. Let's put carpenters, electricians, plumbers and insulators to work and support local entrepreneurship like family businesses, farms, farmer's markets, etc.

Tax Reform
Let's fix our budget problem through tax reform and other steps. Let's not put the burden on workers and students, cut vital services, or pass it off on future generations. The middle-class pays a bigger percentage of their income in taxes than the wealthy. This is not fair! We should tax the speculators! A small Financial Transaction Tax on speculative trading - futures, options and derivatives on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and the Chicago Board of Trade - would raise billions of dollars to help eliminate the Illinois budget deficit.

We should encourage local communities to be less dependent on the national and global
economies. We can become more self-reliant through supporting local merchants, producing food locally, and producing energy locally.

I believe that all Americans have the right to health care and that we need some form of single-payer or Medicare for all. Since there has been so much misinformation concerning what that means, I refer the reader to the 2008
Illinois Green Party platform statement.
If elected I will co-sponsor and work for passage of HB 311, the state single-payer bill.

Fairness
The tax system is unfair to the middle class. Relying heavily on property tax to fund schools is unfair. Heavy government debt is unfair to our children. Let's be fair by ensuing college and trade school assistance and affordable health care. George will fight for fairness in all of these areas.
